Roger Belman was named ConocoPhillips Canada’s managing counsel in January 2026.

He leads a team of legal professionals that supports and advises on legal and compliance matters, and he advises on corporate strategy and business planning for the Canada business unit.

Belman joined ConocoPhillips in Alaska in 2005, supporting exploration and production, gas and LNG marketing, environmental permitting and joint venture negotiations. His first overseas assignment came in 2009 when he was seconded into a joint venture with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company in the UAE as VP Legal. Successive roles in Aberdeen, Scotland and Stavanger, Norway followed, where he supported offshore development and production activities and gas marketing to Western Europe. Belman moved to Houston in 2014 to support unconventional development and production in the Bakken and Permian Basins, exploration in other Lower 48 basins, and gas marketing and transportation activities. 

Prior to joining the company, he spent a decade in private practice in Alaska, Seattle and Washington, D.C., after starting his career in a judicial clerkship in Alaska. 

Belman was born in Montreal and earned a bachelor's degree from Eckerd College and a law degree from Vermont Law School.
