Education
We think the best way to prepare a community for the future is to equip the next generation with the education and practical skills necessary to help them achieve their full potential. We support a wide variety of educational initiatives for children and youth, young adults, Indigenous communities and new Canadians that align with our values and business objectives.
Education
Equipping the next generation.
Arts Commons
For many years we have been a strong supporter of Arts Commons, one of Canada’s largest arts centres. The ConocoPhillips Hub for Inspired Learning – a partnership of Arts Commons, Campus Calgary, the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District – is an innovative, curriculum-based program that moves the classroom into Calgary’s premier arts and cultural setting for a week. The Hub provides more than 500 students annually with applied learning and integrated educational programming, including opportunities to develop creative thinking and conceptual learning, cultivate practical problem-solving skills and empower personal development.
Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo
We support the Calgary Zoo’s Biofacts Interpretive Collection, which enhances learning opportunities for visitors to the zoo while delivering a conservation message. Our support for the program also helps to build and expand learning kits for the zoo’s school programs, including summer camps.
Inside Education Wetland Program
Inside Education is a non-profit organization that helps Alberta teachers and students better understand the science, technology and issues related to our environment and natural resources. We sponsor wetland field trips facilitated by Inside Education for elementary students in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. During these field trips, the students learned about wetland ecosystems in their area, including how to identify the plants and animals living there. As a company committed to environmental stewardship, we are proud to sponsor the Inside Education Wetland Program that promotes this value in the next generation.
NAIT Power Engineering Technology Program
Industrial development continues to result in the expansion of work responsibilities for Power Engineers. We’re proud to support the NAIT Power Engineering Technology program, which is vital to building the skilled workforce Alberta needs.
Janvier Sekweha Youth Centre
Sekweha means “for the youth” in Dene. The Janvier Sekweha Youth Centre is a community-led initiative that supports programming and services for Indigenous children and young adults in the communities of Janvier and Chard. They offer experiential learning initiatives that focus on the concept of “walking in two worlds” through the integration of culture and curriculum. Sekweha works with schools in the community to provide cultural programming around land-based learning activities and cultural camps. Camps are especially important as they connect community, culture and curriculum for youth, and provide opportunities for youth to spend time with and learn from Elders through positive programming and activities. Sekweha collaborates with the community on events like Dene Days and Treaty Days, hosts an annual Youth-Elder Dinner, and organizes trips out of the community for youth to participate in sporting, educational and entertainment events. We are pleased to support Sekweha’s important work to improve literacy, school attendance and school achievement.
Women Building Futures Society
Women Building Futures (WBF) is an organization focused on generating economic prosperity for women through assessment and skills training, workforce training and coaching, and job search training and retention support. ConocoPhillips has provided support to WBF since 2018 and has acted as catalyst partner since WBF first began local activities in the region. We offer our support to WBF learning opportunities by offering tours to their participants and stay in touch with cohort graduates to identify future opportunities for program graduates. We are proud to support their work with Indigenous women in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
