Stephen Lee is ConocoPhillips Canada’s managing counsel. He has been in this role since summer 2016, following his appointment as assistant general counsel in 2014.

Lee leads a team of lawyers, paralegals and security professionals, which provides oversight on legal, compliance and security matters, as well as advising on corporate strategy and business plans.  

Since joining ConocoPhillips in 2008 as a senior solicitor, Lee has represented the company's interests in various regulatory proceedings, joint-ventures, aboriginal benefit agreement negotiations, and commercial, supply chain and acquisition and divestiture transactions, including transportation infrastructure, oil sands and offshore interests.

Lee has more than 25 years of energy law experience. He began his legal career in 1994 with the then Calgary-based law firm of Howard, Mackie, and specialized in regulatory and environmental law throughout his career in private practice.

Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Lee earned his Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from the University of Calgary in 1989 and his Bachelor of Laws in 1994 from the University of Saskatchewan. He was called to the Alberta bar in 1995 and the Northwest Territories bar in 2002.
