People are a core focus of our work, whether they are a part of our high-performing team or live in communities in which we operate. Our Stakeholder Engagement Policy is shared around the belief that no individual or corporation can be a good citizen without considering the interests of the communities in which it operates. We are active in several multi-stakeholder initiatives designed to address the impacts and opportunities of oil sands development.
With plans to be involved in Alberta’s oil sands for the long-term, we are committed to creating local benefits from our projects, including creating employment opportunities, funding training and education programs, supporting community projects and ensuring we provide local businesses and contractors with contract opportunities. As one example of this commitment, Phase 1 of the Surmont project resulted in over $60 million in local contract spend.
We employ over 2,100 full-time employees and contractors in our Canadian operations and our team members enjoy a fast-paced innovative and opportunity-rich work environment.
